How a Project Typically Starts
Most custom application projects start with a specific frustration, not a spec document — a spreadsheet that's outgrown what it can handle, or a process three people manage manually because no off-the-shelf tool fits how the business actually works. The first conversation is usually about that frustration directly: what's slow, what's error-prone, and what it would look like if it just worked. From there, I sketch the data model and the core screens before writing production code, so there's something concrete to react to — a rough layout of the dashboard or portal — rather than a document that's hard to evaluate without a developer's background. Smaller tools, like a single dashboard or booking flow, typically show a working version within the first couple of weeks.
